Hello, my name is Ellie and I’m transgendered.

This is my background: I was born in Taiwan to a Taiwanese mother and an American father.  In spite of this I look pretty white and the space I occupy in the world is adjusted accordingly.  My parents are hardly rich but I’ve never wanted for food or basic necessities.  They fostered a love for learning that continues to this day.

These are a few of my labels: transgendered, lesbian, Asian-American, radical transfeminist, pacifist, atheist, Taiwanese-born, United States citizen, voter, pro-choice, pro-gay rights, pro-intersex rights, anti-circumcision, anti-FGM, anti-IGM, and so on and so forth.

There are two reasons that I started with my labels. First, it’s helpful to know where I come from so my perspective is plain; in some ways I can provide unique insight that few people can and in others I am hopelessly blinded. Second, I want to provoke any gut reactions to the various states of my being now rather than later. If, for example, you think pacifists are dangerously stupid and shouldn’t be listened to for any reason, I’d rather not make you waste your time only to find out the awful truth. I’m considerate like that.

re: my comment about ‘cis’ on the other blog – there was a question that asked what it meant. i responded to that question. sorry. i was only trying to be helpful. my comment wasn’t aimed at those such as you who already know what it means and where it comes from. please delete my remark. i promise never to post again. please excuse me if this is the wrong place to post this. i’m sorry and i just wanted to apologize, and i was afraid to post anything more to the other blog. this is my last post here. please delete this one, too.

There’s certainly no need to be that apologetic. I put the link in the original post in order to give people a resource if they were wondering what cis meant. I just want discussion on the post to be about the post and any questions about the meaning or nature of cis can/should be posted at the page that I linked to.
